I stayed up way past my bedtime last night to hear Sarah Palin address the Republic National Convention. Her speech was one of the best I have ever heard! I am finally excited about the upcoming election.
Sarah strikes me as the All-American girl-next-door that everyone loves. She comes across as being for real, not putting on airs. She is also beautiful, intelligent, eloquent, articulate, poised, a little spunky, but very kind and generous. I think most women aspire to be like her - happy with her own self and giving of her best to her family while pursuing her career (whatever that may be). Even stay-at-home homeschool moms like me can love her, and be inspired to greatness in our unique setting and choice. Even though my career at this time is to homeschool my children, I have to admire someone like her who chose not to stay at home to raise and school her children. She reminds me of my sister who loves her husband and children as much as I do mine, but recognizes that neither staying at home, nor homeschooling is what's best for their family. Neither are right or wrong, just different.
I was especially struck by the feeling that she was very non-judgemental, and would respect me for making the choice to stay at home while not feeling defensive of HER choice to not stay home. If you watched her give her speech, didn't you feel like, if you knew her a little bit, that you could call her for advice or to cry on her shoulder over some family problem? She seems to so genuinely care!
McCain chose well in this pick! She reaches across the board to women in almost every stage of life. She identifies with the career moms, the special needs moms, the "hockey moms", the moms struggling with teenage rebellion and pregnancy, and parents of children in the military, the parents with more than the average 2.5 children.
I'm quite sure that the die-hard feminists love her for having a family and a career (having it all!), as well as a husband who is a stay-at-home dad for their baby!
